The 2010 Freestyle season has been a great season for the North Valley Misfits. The kids division has had substantial growth and includes wrestlers from many different experience levels. It has been extremely exciting to see the growth in these young athletes as they become familiar with the sport of wrestling and the level of personal growth over the entire season. The kids divisions, which include Rookie, Bantam, Intermediate, and Novice, had several wrestlers that placed at the State Freestyle Tournament.
They are as follows:
Kyle Montaperto, 5th place Bantam 45
Jacob Ortiz, 4th place Bantam 60
Connor Vermeesch, 6th place Intermediate 60
Ethan Andrade, 2nd place Intermediate 65
The Middle School and High School wrestlers also had an outstanding season. The talent level in Arizona wrestling has grown over the past few years and the Misfits have responded in kind. These athletes have answered the challenge admirably and are consistently competing at a high level. They have also stepped up to lead the younger wrestlers in the club and have proven to be a great example of what wrestlers do in preparation for competition. These divisions, which include Schoolboy, Cadet, and Junior, also had several wrestlers that placed at the State Freestyle Tournament. They are as follows:
Brennan Smith, 2nd place Cadet 160
Mason Wellman, 3rd place Cadet 171
Payton Vermeesch, 2nd place Junior 160
There are several wrestlers that have qualified for both the Western Regional Tournament in Pocatello, Idaho, as well as Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. We wish all of our wrestlers and all of the Arizona wrestlers attending these events the best of luck.
The success of this past season has inspired the North Valley Misfits to develop a summer wrestling program, which will be a series of tournaments throughout the summer.
